MY DEAR SISTER IN THE LORD, — I gladly send you a few lines, in hope that they may be of comfort to your sister whose little boy has been taken to be with the Lord.
It is sweet to know that the precious work of the Lord Jesus is so great in its value that it secures for eternal blessedness all those who die before reaching the age of responsibility. He came to save that which was lost, and He said, “So it is not the will of your Father who is in the heavens that one of these little ones should perish” (see Matthew 18: 11, 14). On the part of little children there has been no wilful refusing of God’s grace, or of light from Him, for they have not come to years when He would hold them responsible. And therefore there can be no doubt that He will carry out His own will in regard to them and not one of them will perish. This serves to show what the heart of God is, and it is a comfort which He would delight to minister to all who have lost children in their early years. It is blessed to know that many millions who have, through dying in childhood, never had a place in responsibility before God have nevertheless a place before Him in connection with His eternal sovereignty, and thus they have been marked out for a place in His universe of bliss which [p. 392] they will occupy throughout eternity to His glory and praise.... I trust your dear sister will be comforted as she thinks of the love and wisdom of God who has taken her child away from all the evil of this world, and from all that might have developed in his own heart, to be safely housed in His eternal abode, beyond the reach of evil for evermore.
With love in the Lord Jesus,
Yours sincerely in Him,
