Hymn 399 — Master, we would no longer be
| 399 | J. G. DECK (1807-1884) | L.M.D. |

Master, we would no longer be At home in that which hateth Thee, But patient in Thy footsteps go, Thy sorrow as Thy joy to know. We would -- and O confirm the power! -- With meekness meet the darkest hour, By shame, contempt, however tried; For Thou wast scorned and crucified.

We welcome still Thy faithful word -- The cross shall meet its sure reward; For soon must pass the little while, Then joy shall crown Thy servant's toil. O may our path of service be Well-pleasing, Saviour, unto Thee, That when our earthly course is run, We may receive Thy word, "Well done."
