KNOWING THE LORD HIMSELF

KNOWING THE LORD HIMSELF

Food is not of much use to the growing child if the muscle is not strengthened by it. “By my God have I leaped over a wall” (Psalm 18: 29). You will be able to find out the stage of intimacy that you have arrived at by the way you seek to preserve it. You must preserve what you do know before you seek to know more. The great lack with us all is the little we know of the Lord. If we knew Him better everything would be regarded in relation to Him.

Much time is spent in seeking to know the word, but very little comparatively in seeking to know the Lord Himself. The one is good, but the other is very good, or best, because the better you know Him the [p. 501] more His word will open out to you - “the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him” (Ephesians 1: 17).

We are never safe in this world unless we are full, and fresh in the enjoyment of the better things that are outside this world, conscious that they are better to us than ever could be found in the world. “Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased” (Psalm 4: 7). Begin your day always with this declaration, both silently and aloud, and you will greatly prosper.
