ONE HEART AND ONE MIND
ONE HEART AND ONE MIND
If people were of one mind it is wonderful how much they would like one another. But if the mind cannot interchange, neither can the heart truly reciprocate. We can confide in the Lord because He understands us. His understanding is as complete as His love. He proved His confidence in His disciples as friends by telling them what His mind was, and also what His heart was, even that He gave His life for them.
If one cares to understand me, I must be drawn to him, and thus the heart would endure anything to minister to what would suit him. When this is true to us spiritually we like to be intelligent in, and occupied with, our Lord’s interests; even as among ourselves we become deeply interested in those who are interested for us. If you read 2 Kings 6 you will see a striking example of how the Lord shows His interest for us in the smallest matter, even an axe’s head, as well as in the greatest danger from our enemies. Nothing is too small for Him to be concerned about; nothing too great to find Him prepared for, if we have but eyes to see!
I hope to spend till Tuesday with —— I ought to be able to recognise the enjoyment that I shall have in his society as produced and supplied by the Lord. I feel reproached when I allow myself to desire any human company when I remember that the One who would be most intimate with me, who best understands me, and therefore can best converse with me, is beside me. Yet I am sure the Lord uses instruments as members of Himself, to render to us the service that He would render Himself if He were here. All service is of this character, whether it be the reciprocation of a thought or the communication of means. All should be received as springing from Him and therefore enjoyed, and really enjoyable, if recognised as from His hand.
