JOY
JOY
Seeking joy is never a healthy state. If you are walking according to the Lord’s mind, the joy will come. “To be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8: 6). If you are seeking merely exhilaration for yourself, it must be denied you. Seek the Lord for His will and counsel, and He is sure to speak to you. He is, in fact, always speaking to us, if we would but hear. The nearer I am to the Lord, the more plainly He will chide with me; but what brings me near Him is my confidence in His love to receive and succour me. It is by engagement in the new scene where Christ is, who is my life, that (like men in good society) we are made suited to it. I do not think the principle of questioning whether things injure us or not is sufficiently maintained in souls; under what scrutiny a Jew was placed by the law of Moses! If my conduct shows infidelity to the truth I hold, I shall certainly lose my hold of the truth; but if my ways corroborate my confession of the truth, the “work of faith” will appear.
Occupy your soul deeply and constantly with the love of God presently acting, thus you will daily grow in the knowledge of His wisdom and love and you will find how much your heart will be deepened in the joy of it.
